The Importance of Clarity

Welcome to a brand new year. What will it hold for you?

Anything is possible!
For a client of mine, this month represents the beginning of an exciting adventure for him and his family. He’s resigned from his position with a company that has employed him for the past 10 years and will be (literally) sailing away from his safe harbor to take his wife and 2 children on a life-changing journey. They will be traveling the world for the next 18 months – his goal is to experience multiculturalism in its truest form by living within the communities and colonies that are vastly different from our own way of life. To listen to the rain forest at night, see the breathtaking landscapes in India, scuba dive the coral reefs of the Red Sea, safari in South Africa and experience the history, arts, languages and traditions abroad.

His story reminds us that anything is possible.

Clarity brought my client to this decision. This was the only reason he was able to make his life-long dream a reality. Obviously, he could come up with many reasons why he shouldn’t or couldn’t do this. But, when you step past the habit of defending your present possessions and positions, you step into the “experience” of life …moment to moment, day to day! Quite often it’s the bravery behind our decisions that makes us feel alive -- when we put our hearts on the line, take a chance, explore, dare, dream. It’s not the achievement of the goal itself but whom we become along the way that gives our lives true meaning.

“You don’t need to travel the world to embrace each day with a sense of wonder and adventure”.

Improve Your Quality of Life

Uncertainty debilitates us. It zaps us of our power, it drains us of our energy and confidence
and most importantly, it takes away the most precious thing you will ever have. Time!

“Life dreams pull you in the direction of what you’re capable of becoming”

A great resource to improve your quality of life is a book called the wish list by Barbara Ann Kipfer – it holds a wellspring of inspiration for creating life goals. What works for me personally is every week I commit to at least 3 smaller goals.

And, every month I commit at least one larger goal. For example, recently my weekly goals were to finish an article, look for new office space and volunteer at my son’s school.

My larger goals were to personally experience a Tony Robbins Seminar (which was great!) and meet my favourite musician, Rob Thomas - and, what an incredible evening that was! I thought his talent set him apart until I met his amazing personality

What have you always wanted to do but have never followed through on? Throw out the reasons why you can’t – the stories you tell yourself and others are simply that, stories. Get rid of the excuses.

“The soul is the perceiver and revealer of the truth. We know truth when we see it”.
-Ralph Waldo Emerson

Get Results
Ask yourself what goals, big or small do you want to commit to nurturing or realizing this year – and, what steps can you take today? You need to get clear in order to get results.

What if your vision is still clouded?

The reality is many people are uncertain, but only a few do something about it. If you need help gaining clarity, or focus in your life, try a complimentary coaching session. As we all know, life doesn’t wait. One guarantee we do have is that today we are indeed older than we were yesterday. And, tomorrow we will have one less day on this earth. Make this moment, this day, this month, this year count for something great and meaningful to you!

A few more helpful tips can be found in my recently published article: How to make the most of your life now click here

Health Tip:

This is the first of a series of Health Tips that I will be sharing with you.

Many people struggle with their weight and personal relationship with food. This is why Amazon shoppers appear to spend $120,000.00 on diet books per day. Always remember as far as your body is concerned, dieting is starvation. Because it doesn’t know how long the starvation period will last, it clings to the fat - it turns down the metabolic flame to save as much of the fat on your body as possible. Often this flame remains slow burning even after the diet ends. This is when you become personally acquainted with the familiar yo-yo phenomenon.

Bottom line, fat is your body’s fuel – you need it for energy. The problem is we are choosing high fat foods instead of foods that actually boost our metabolism. We’ve been taught to watch our quantity and not our quality. This is our first mistake. Throw away the diet and eat sensibly when you’re hungry. Here is a list of food you can enjoy in virtually unlimited portions:
Corn Broccoli Rice Carrots Potatoes Black beans
Lettuce (all varieties) Cauliflower Kidney Beans Celery Bananas Peas
Grapefruit Pineapple Oatmeal Lentils Apples Oranges
One last tip - your body/mind will crave what you feed it. This applies to healthier choices as well as foods such as chips, ice cream, hamburgers etc. The more of the above nutrient rich foods you incorporate into your daily routine, the more frequently you’ll want to grab them over the less nourishing choices. Give it try…you have nothing to lose but a few inches…the healthy, no starving, save money on diet book fads kind of way.

Life Tip:
It’s a proven fact that laughter is a healing activity, enhancing your brain chemistry. Not only is it great for eliminating stress, on a biophysical level, laughter moves lymph fluid (you don’t need to know) around your body, which boosts your immune system. Yes, laughing can keep away the nasty common flu. When you’re enjoying a “good laugh” you’ll notice that you take in vast amounts of oxygen. In a way, it’s similar to temporary hyperventilation and many parasites, bacteria and even cancer cells can’t survive in the presence of oxygen.

So, start laughing your way to better health.

Thanks for spending some of your valuable time with me

Until next time,
Live Well.
